The Casualty star returned to acting earlier this year after leaving her soap days behind her.

BBC star Amanda Mealing has revealed she was rushed to the hospital earlier this week after she suddenly lost her vision in one eye. Sharing the horror ordeal with her loyal legion of fans online, the Holby City star took to Instagram to share a snap of her eyes, one of which looked drastically different from the other. She captioned the black and white snap: “#StartTheWeek I’d suddenly lost vision in one eye, so went to the hospital yesterday morning (December 1)

“By lunchtime I was on the operating table having my retina re-attached, repairs to torn parts and… a gas bubble inserted (who knew?!) Now I must spend a week prone, face first *used to be familiar!) And THAT was just Monday [cry-laughing emoji].”

The actress then went on to thank the incredible doctors and nurses who worked to help restore her vision in her eye. She gushed: “Were it not for the beautiful, indefatigable souls Karl Cooper and Glynn Hayward, I’d simply not be here.Just 24 hours after giving birth I was diagnosed with breast cancer - my world stopped' - OK! Magazine

“You save my day, my a**e, my dog, and my life every day. Eternity is not enough time to say thank you [five kissing emojis]. And you, Zoe Bentley, for bringing home the cyclops. Thank you all for finding me [three heart emojis].”

It didn’t take long before her famous friends and loyal legion of fans flocked to the comments to pass on their well-wishes to the TV star online. Bonnie Langford penned: “[shocked emoji] Poor thing. Wishing you better,” as Russell T Davies added: “Oof! But you went there fast, that’s wonderful, that’s fixable. Much love, darling”

Angela Griffin added: “Hun! Sending love” as a fourth echoed: “Sending healing vibes [three heart emojis].” Meanwhile, others wished her a swift recovery, with one user adding: “Hope you are on the mend, Amanda [flowers emoji]” as another echoed: “Get well soon [prayer emoji, sad emoji].”

But this isn’t the only health scare the 57-year-old actress has endured in recent years. Last year, she was diagnosed with blood cancer after being diagnosed with breast cancer years earlier.

It comes after the starlet landed herself a new job on a special episode of the Channel 5 show, Good Ship Murder, this summer. The actor shared the screen alongside well-known actors Catherine Tyldesley, Shayne Ward, and Ross Adams.

The Good Ship Murder has become a popular series on Channel 5 and sees different much-loved celebs appear each week. The third series will air on our screens next year. Other stars set to appear on the new series include Birds of a Feather legends Linda Robson and Lesley Joseph.
