Coronation Street & Emmerdale: Fans Celebrate as a Long-Requested Corriedale Moment Finally Happens
Coronation Street and Emmerdale fans rejoice as huge Corriedale wish fulfilled
Coronation Street and Emmerdale fans have all issued the same plea for the hotly-anticipated crossover of the two ITV soaps ahead of the major television event that will air in January
Coronation Street and Emmerdale fans have all issued the same plea for the hotly-anticipated crossover of the two ITV soaps. The programmes will collide in January for a special television event, and while very little is known at this stage, a trailer was recently released that teased utter chaos.
Over the years, both long-running programmes became a staple addition to linear television and have aired several days a week for decades. But since the technology has become available in more recent years, fans have been able to get their soap fix from 7am on the day of broadcast as the episodes are released on ITVX.
As they prepared themselves for the crossover, fans took to social media to beg the broadcaster to refrain from letting the special go out early on their in-house streaming platform, with one writing: “I really hope they don’t put Corriedale out early on ITVX. Hope we can watch and react to it all together.”
Another begged: “truly believe that ITV should NOT air the CorrieDale crossover in the morning and it should only be shown live in the evening. Just imagine how insane the timeline will be with everyone reacting to it at once? We used to be a proper country,” but another wrote: “I wanted to be live too, and I don’t even live in the UK. But for those who complain about it, it’s really easy and simple, just don’t open the twitter.”
With it seemingly confirmed that the episode will not be released early, viewers of Coronation Street, which is about to celebrate its 65th anniversary, and Emmerdale, which began in 1972, were relieved. One said: “so glad that corriedale will be aired live and not released at 7am omg,” and another added: “SO they aren’t putting it up at 7am on ITVX hallelujah BEST MOVE EVER because it can’t be spoilt for anybody now!”
In a teaser trailer released on YouTube on 1 December, it is revealed that Corriedale will focus on the aftermath of a disastrous multi-vehicle pile up that involves several of each soaps’ favourite characters. Characters from each soap are in their own vehicles when they collide on a dark country road near the fictional village of Hotten, which is just a few miles from Emmerdale.
Fans have wasted no time in posting theories about what might happen, with one writing: “Have no idea who but they have said the aftermath will lead onto revenge and other stories. As long as it’s not Aaron or Robert. I’m thinking maybe Liam,,” and another said: “I’m worried about Liam. I really like him.”
Others are at a loss to figure out what will happen, with one writing: “Feel like I need more info, Number one theory is that its to do with John for some reason!” and another said: “It’s giving me Emmerdale limo in the lake vibes and that episode was awesome so i’ve got high hopes…”
Another viewer was far more concerned with what the theme tune will be like, and whether there will be a mashup of the two iconic pieces of music.
They wrote: “Forgot theories! The question we all want to know is what will the theme tune be!! I just tried to mash/blend those two songs together and it would make your ears bleed Definitely need a professional for that and standing ovation for the final product! hahaha!”
In the trailer, emergency services arrive, and the characters caught in the crash are calling for help. There is also mystery swirling around why two residents of Weatherfield have journeyed across to Yorkshire. Fans will have to wait until January 2026 to find out. ITV will release a special one hour episode where the soaps cross over, and the names mentioned so far are not the only ones set to make an appearance.
