Coronation Street: Beloved Star Says Emotional Goodbye as Final Scenes Are Confirmed

A departing Coronation Street star branded their castmates the ‘best humans they know’ after filming their final scenes.

Channique Sterling-Brown joined the ITV soap’s cast in 2022, portraying Dee-Dee Bailey.

It was revealed earlier this year that Channique, 28, would be bowing out from the cobbles after three years.

Taking to her Instagram story, the actress seemingly confirmed having filmed her final scenes.

She shared a snap posed alongside Roy Cropper actor David Neilson, 76, in the Roy’s Rolls set.

Channique captioned the photo: ‘Last time sharing the screen with the best humans to know and work with @coronationstreet.’

Channique, 28, joined Coronation Street back in 2022 and her decision to leave was announced earlier this year

At the time her Coronation Street exit was reported, an insider revealed to The Express: ‘Posters are up around the Corrie set behind the scenes, it is common knowledge that Channique is going, and cast have been informed.’

A second source added to The Sun: ‘It was Channique’s decision to go and she told bosses some time ago.

‘She’s hugely talented and ambitious and the world will be her oyster.’

Channique later confirmed the news on social media, penning to her fans: ‘After three whirlwind years of Dee-Dee Bailey, I’ve decided to say farewell to the cobbles.

‘Bittersweet to be saying goodbye, but I am so excited for pastures new and enjoying the end of playing Princess Diana and her many expressions.’

The character Dee-Dee was introduced as part of the established Bailey family, featuring dad Ed (Trevor Michael Georges), brothers Michael (Ryan Russell) and James (Jason Callender), as well as uncle Ronnie (Vinta Morgan).

Across her three-year stint, Channique has been part of the biggest storylines on the soap, taking centre stage alongside show villain Joel Deering (Calum Lill).

Dee Dee fought hard to expose evil Joel’s antics, that saw him grooming and abusing young women, before his death on the series.

Following this, she gave birth to his baby after deciding against having an abortion, and was the victim of a medical negligence case due to racism.

Because of complications during her birth, Dee Dee underwent hysterectomy surgery.

The lawyer has since been raising daughter Laila with the help of her brother James.

She more recently developed a romance with newcomer Ollie, played by Raphael Akuwudike – who was later revealed to be part of the incoming Driscoll family.

It comes as another Coronation Street star addressed their decision to leave the soap.

Actor and comedian Jack Carroll joined the ensemble in 2023, playing Bobby Crawford, nephew to Carla Connor (Alison King).

Jack ultimately stayed in the role for 18 months before Bobby made a quiet exit from Weatherfield.

Viewers saw the character head off on holiday, but he never returned to the cobbles.

ack said: ‘That seems to be the trend in the way that they do exits now, it’s a bit more low key because it gives everybody then a bit more flexibility if you need to rearrange some pieces of the jigsaw in the future, that there’s that bit of flexibility there.’

He continued to The Sun: ‘So yeah, I was kind of grateful that they gave me that opportunity really, and didn’t kind of kill me off or anything like that.

‘So yeah, I think in terms of ways to go, that was ideal for kind of my situation and what I needed at the time.’

Instead, the 27-year-old BAFTA-winning star is now focusing on his upcoming national tour.

The tour will launch in Bradford in February, before concluding in Stockton in November 2026 – having travelled through 22 cities.

Coronation Street airs on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX.
