New Yellowstone Spinoff’s S2 Update Deepens A Taylor Sheridan Mystery
There’s a promising update about the most elusive upcoming Yellowstone spinoff, but it deepens the mystery surrounding Taylor
Sheridan’s non-Dutton show. Although the original series concluded with Yellowstone season 5 in December, several spinoffs will continue the Western drama once helmed by Kevin Costner’s iconic John Dutton.
One of the upcoming shows is The Madison spinoff, with Michelle Pfeiffer leading its cast as Montana newcomer Stacy Clyburn. The series is an enigma, as it seemingly won’t involve any of the primary Dutton family members, and little is known about the show’s deeper plot details and release strategy, making it one of the franchise’s most intriguing mysteries.
Recently, The Madison received an optimistic update about the series’ future beyond season 1. As exciting as it is to have signs pointing toward another Yellowstone series getting multiple seasons, it only exacerbates the confusion around the spinoff.
While there are few updates on The Madison season 1 to speak of, Deadline reported that The Madison season 2 is all but confirmed for an early renewal. Though there hasn’t been any press for the show since The Madison season 1 wrapped filming at the end of last year, there’s new momentum behind the project.
Moreover, it was announced that filming for The Madison season 2 would begin in September, coinciding with the news that Taylor Sheridan was opening up the largest studio for television and film production in Texas. The campus, called SGS Studios, is set to host the production of The Madison season 2 this month.
The momentum behind The Madison signals trust from Paramount that Sheridan will create a sophomore run worth consuming. It’s a risk to produce a second season before audiences have digested the first, but with names like Suits’ Patrick J. Adams and Lost’s Matthew Fox boosting Pfeiffer’s lead, it’s a calculated risk.
Aside from the production update, there’s another exciting piece of news for The Madison to share as season 2 takes form. Kurt Russell is joining the cast of The Madison, presumably for season 2. However, the development is somewhat confusing, as Yellowstone’s creators have offered only scant hints of what to expect from the series while gearing up for its second season.
The developments make The Madison even more of a puzzle. But with Beth and Rip’s spinoff expected next year, and CBS forecasting to air Kayce Dutton’s Yellowstone spinoff, Y: Marshals, in their mid-season lineup, 2026 could be the year of Yellowstone, finally delivering Pfeiffer’s series alongside the Dutton family’s anticipated continuations.
It’s safe to say now that whatever Sheridan and company have in store for The Madison, it will be worth waiting for. It’s been said that Pfeiffer’s series could fill the void left by the original show as Yellowstone’s replacement series, and the spinoff heading into its second run signals that could well be the case.
