‘Oscar-worthy’ Yellowstone icon’s ‘wickedly funny’ film set for Netflix axe

Netflix fans haven’t got long to catch “a first class” film that sees a Yellowstone star deliver their “best performance ever”.

Whilst loads of fresh content gets added to Netflix each month, most recently Stranger Things season five, there’s also a regular clear-out of popular TV shows and films – and December is no exception.

The ten year old indie flick Grandma is amongst those getting the chop, a movie that centres around retired poet Elle (portrayed by Lily Tomlin ) and her granddaughter Sage (Julia Garner).

Following the loss of her wife, Elle embarks on a road trip across Los Angeles alongside Sage in a quest to raise cash for her abortion.

This unforeseen journey sees them seeking funds from former friends, lovers and acquaintances that neither are particularly thrilled about reconnecting with.

Unfortunately, there isn’t much time left to watch Grandma, crafted by American Pie co-creator Paul Weitz, as the film departs Netflix on Monday, December 1.

Central to Grandma is Elle, brought to life by actress Lily Tomlin who’s renowned for her roles in Murphy Brown, The West Wing as Deborah Fiderer, Malibu Country and more recently, Grace and Frankie.

She’s accompanied by actress Julia Garner who Netflix audiences will immediately recognise as Ruth Langmore in the legendary drama Ozark.

Some of her other major roles include starring in the true crime series Inventing Anna, plus the 2025 horror flick Weapons. Grandma, the acclaimed film, boasts a star-studded cast including none other than Sam Elliott, known for his hard-hitting role as Shea Brennan in the Yellowstone spin-off 1883.

Elliott has also graced the screen in A Star is Born alongside Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, The Ranch, and Landman on Paramount+ with Billy Bob Thornton.

The film Grandma has been showered with praise over the years, with viewers lauding its “utter frankness, humour and intelligence”.

One fan penned: “Grandma is wickedly funny, emotionally intelligent and also very brave.”

Another viewer hailed it as “Sam Elliott’s best performance ever”, adding: “Sam Elliott was just amazing in this!”.

“I have loved the depth and the humility in the warmth and the humour that he brought through with his character. I really feel like it was an Oscar worthy performance.”

Meanwhile, another admirer simply described it as “a first class film with a real message”.
