Ten-year-old indie film Grandma is among the casualties, a movie that revolves around retired poet Elle (played by Lily Tomlin) and her granddaughter Sage (Julia Garner).

After losing her wife, Elle decides to go on a road trip around Los Angeles on a mission with Sage in a bid to raise money for her abortion. This unexpected mission sees them borrow money from old friends, lovers and acquaintances that neither of them are too pleased to get back in touch with.

Sadly, there isn’t long to watch Grandma, brought to life by American Pie co-creator Paul Weitz, as the film will be leaving Netflix on Monday, December 1.

At the heart of Grandma is Elle, played by actress Lily Tomlin who is famed for her work in Murphy Brown, The West Wing as Deborah Fiderer, Malibu Country and most recently, Grace and Frankie.

She is joined by actress Julia Garner who Netflix fans will best recognise as Ruth Langmore in the iconic drama Ozark.

Some of her other biggest roles have been starring in the true crime series Inventing Anna, as well as the 2025 horror film Weapons.

Another major star in Grandma is none other than actor Sam Elliott who played the tough, no nonsense Shea Brennan in the Yellowstone spin-off 1883.

He has also featured in A Star is Born with Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, The Ranch and Landman on Paramount+ with Billy Bob Thornton.

Fans have been praising Grandma for years, with many viewers complimenting the film on its “utter frankness, humour and intelligence”.

Another wrote: “Grandma is wickedly funny, emotionally intelligent and also very brave.”

Stating that it’s “Sam Elliott’s best performance ever”, a second continued: “Sam Elliott was just amazing in this!

“I have loved the depth and the humility in the warmth and the humor that he brought through with his character. I really feel like it was an Oscar worthy performance.”
