Bear makes the biggest mistake of his life in Emmerdale with devastating consequences

The manipulation Bear Wolf (Joshua Richards) has suffered at the hands of Ray Walters (Joe Absolom) and Celia Daniels (Jaye Griffiths) was highlighted again in tonight’s episode of Emmerdale, as he deliberately stopped the slaves from escaping.

Bear was found by Ray in the summer and taken to Celia’s farm. At the time, he was feeling completely alone and as though son Paddy Kirk

(Dominic Brunt) no longer wanted anything to do with him. Ray took advantage of this and told Bear that he’d provide him with a home to prevent him from living out of his car.

Said ‘home’ turned out to be the attic in Celia’s farmhouse. It’s dirty and dark, but Bear had been tricked by Ray into thinking it’s better than what he had previously.

As a result of Ray’s comments and bribing him with food, drugs, and the opportunity to rest when others are working, Bear cannot see that he’s being exploited.

His view was challenged a couple of days ago though, when fellow slaves Mick and Simo discussed an escape plan. The conversation happened around the same time Bear was reflecting on Anya’s death, and how her young daughter has no idea what’s happened to her.

Mick and Simo told Bear that if he joins their escape plan, he can see his son again. It was tempting, and it seemed as though Bear thought it was a good idea when he smuggled some keys from the kitchen downstairs.

Bear was on hand to help Mick and Simo again in tonight’s episode, as he told them Ray would be out with Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy) for a while. With Celia elsewhere as well, they’d be the only ones on the farm.

Unfortunately, due to the fact Bear feels as though he has a connection with Ray, leaving the farm felt like a betrayal. He secretly told Ray to stick around, which meant he caught Mick and Simo trying to escape.

Bear told Mick and Simo that Ray and Celia look after them, and didn’t believe leaving was right.

That evening, Bear asked Ray where Mick and Simo had gone. Ray revealed that Simo had gone off to another farm, and that there’s still ‘hope’ for Mick. It quashed Bear’s minor fear that something bad had happened, and fuelled his belief that Ray genuinely looks out for the workers.

Unbeknownst to Ray, his life is going to get a whole lot worse next week, as Celia discovers that Ted is in fact Paddy’s dad.

They don’t take locals, due to the risks, but Ray has made the mistake of bringing someone to the farm whose family lives down the road from them.
