A Suspicious Encounter

The week begins quietly in the Dales, but things take a dark turn when April notices something strange at the scrapyard. She’s visiting to deliver lunch to her dad when she sees Ray Walters in a heated conversation with Joe Tate. The two men appear agitated, speaking in hushed tones, and April’s curiosity gets the better of her.

She hides behind a nearby van, listening closely. What she overhears sends chills down her spine — Ray and Joe are arguing about a shipment that’s gone missing and how “the buyers in Hotten won’t wait forever.”

“We can’t afford another delay,” Joe snaps. “If the product doesn’t move tonight, we’re done.”

“Relax,” Ray replies coldly. “The Dingles won’t suspect a thing. The drugs are hidden where no one will ever look.”

April freezes. Drugs? She can hardly believe what she’s hearing. When Joe spots her reflection in the window, she bolts before either man realizes who it was.

April’s Dilemma

Shaken and terrified, April doesn’t know what to do. She wants to tell her father, Marlon, but fears he won’t believe her. Joe Tate, after all, has recently been presenting himself as a “changed man,” and Ray has been posing as a businessman helping the community.

Conflicted, April turns to Rhona Goskirk, who notices something is troubling her. After some hesitation, April blurts out what she heard, describing the conversation word for word. Rhona’s eyes widen in disbelief — the implications are enormous.
