Can Ian Bohen Return to the Yellowstone Universe?

Still, just because Bohen is returning to the Sheridanverse in Lioness Season 3 doesn’t mean that Ryan can’t return to Yellowstone. While

the original series concluded with Yellowstone Season 5 in December 2024, its universe will continue to expand with several spinoffs. Ryan

could return to Beth and Rip’s show, tentatively titled The Dutton Ranch, or Kayce Dutton’s Y: Marshals on CBS. Perhaps the most likely situation, however, is that Ryan could return in 6666, in a Yellowstone spinoff set in Texas, where his story left off.

Perhaps Bohen’s casting is a sign that Joe’s counterterrorism team will have a new operative, or at least a new ally to consult on her operations. According to Variety, Bohen will play Grady, described as “a by-the-books Delta Force operator and primary K9 handler, skilled

in battlefield tactics.” According to his description, Grady would be an excellent ally for Joe’s team, except for the part where he plays it “by-the-book,” since Joe traditionally likes to go off-script.

Grady could link up with Joe’s team due to a connection to Cruz Manuelos (Laysla De Oliveira), due to his background as a Delta Force operator. Cruz went undercover as Zara Adid Paulina in Lioness Season 1. After she left Joe’s team, she was working as a Delta Force

operator, but returned in Lioness Season 2 when Joe tracked her down for a new mission. Due to their crossover, Grady could come into the picture with Cruz, who could be needed again in Lioness Season 3.

Bohen’s role in Lioness adds to the espionage series’ trend of filling out the cast with familiar faces from Yellowstone. One of the best examples of this is James Jordan, who plays Two Cups in Lioness. Jordan played two controversial characters in Yellowstone before becoming a fan favorite in Saldaña’s show. In Yellowstone, Jordan plays Livestock Agent Steve Hendon, a loose cannon who causes several problems for Kayce (Luke Grimes) and Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley).

Jordan also plays Cookie in the first Yellowstone prequel, 1883. Cookie is a similarly loose cannon, a chuck wagon cook who puts the entire caravan in jeopardy when he diverts from James Dutton’s (Tim McGraw) plan. Stephanie Nur also hails from the cast of 1883, where she plays Melodi, the entertainer at the White Elephant who makes a move on Shea Brennan (Sam Elliott). In Lioness, Nur plays Aaliyah Amrohi, a significant character in the counterterrorism plot in Season 1.

Lastly, Dave Annabel features in both Yellowstone and Lioness. While his role in the Yellowstone universe is brief, it’s undeniably one of the most pivotal roles in the franchise. In the original series, Annabel plays Lee Dutton, John Dutton’s oldest son, who dies in the premiere. Annabel also has a significant role in Lioness, portraying Joe’s husband, Neal. In Lioness, Annabel is a facet of Joe’s home life, which she strives to balance with the demanding nature of her CIA team.
