Lioness Season 3’s Yellowstone Addition Continues a Positive Trend for Taylor Sheridan’s Espionage Series
Paramount’s Lioness has cast a regular Taylor Sheridan actor who plays a fan-favorite Yellowstone character, which follows a positive trend
for the series. The update builds on momentum for the CIA drama after the program received the green light for Lioness Season 3 on
October 1. The spy thriller starring Joe Saldaña and Nicole Kidman premiered in 2023, debuting with a few familiar faces from Sheridan’s Kevin Costner-led Yellowstone drama and its prequel, 1883.

Like the Yellowstone franchise, Lioness is one of the only TV shows in the Taylor Sheridan universe that isn’t returning with a new season in 2025. His crime dramas are returning with Tulsa King Season 3 and Mayor of Kingstown Season 4 this fall, and his oil drama is also returning to Paramount+ for Landman Season 2 in November. That said, Lioness Season 3 will likely be worth the wait, especially with reputable Sheridan actors accompanying its return.

Ahead of Season 3, Lioness has added Yellowstone star Ian Bohen. Yellowstone fans will recognize the actor as Ryan, a cowboy and Livestock Agent who worked for John Dutton (Kevin Costner). Unlike other ranch hands who came and went, Ryan was with the Dutton Ranch throughout every season of Yellowstone. In the series finale, Ryan follows his girlfriend, Abby (Lainey Wilson), to Texas, where he vows to accompany her on tour.
Still, it isn’t the first time that Bohen has appeared in a Sheridan production outside Yellowstone. Bohen had a role in the 2017 film Wind River, which Sheridan wrote and directed. Bohen also had a part in Sicario: Day of the Soldado, another film written by Sheridan. Therefore, it’s not a total surprise that Bohen would emerge in another production. It is a welcome addition, however, since Ryan’s Yellowstone story is seemingly over for now.
Bohen’s role in Lioness adds to the espionage series’ trend of filling out the cast with familiar faces from Yellowstone. One of the best examples of this is James Jordan, who plays Two Cups in Lioness. Jordan played two controversial characters in Yellowstone before becoming a fan favorite in Saldaña’s show. In Yellowstone, Jordan plays Livestock Agent Steve Hendon, a loose cannon who causes several problems for Kayce (Luke Grimes) and Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley).
Jordan also plays Cookie in the first Yellowstone prequel, 1883. Cookie is a similarly loose cannon, a chuck wagon cook who puts the entire caravan in jeopardy when he diverts from James Dutton’s (Tim McGraw) plan. Stephanie Nur also hails from the cast of 1883, where she plays Melodi, the entertainer at the White Elephant who makes a move on Shea Brennan (Sam Elliott). In Lioness, Nur plays Aaliyah Amrohi, a significant character in the counterterrorism plot in Season 1.
